I won't blame the university system for its one-size-fits-all nature, that's a problem with standardization.

I hate the debt though.

Still, I think the worst part of this movie was the continuity. In Monsters Inc, Mike said that Sully's been jealous of his looks since the 4th grade. And then why did they have to beat the scream record when clearly they shattered it in this movie? I mean, they blew up a whole room full of scream canisters!

I've actually read that the creators really tried to do a scene with Sully and Mike meeting in elementary school, but it wouldn't work. So they decided that "since fourth grade" is just a saying in the Monster World. (Though it would have been helped by someone using it as a phrase in MU.)

As for the scream record, you could say that they shattered the record for most screams obtained in one outing, but I'd think that the real scream record referred to was a lot more screams than that, built up over an entire career.

Regarding the scream record that's obviously what they're trying to accomplish in the first movie (all time screams built up over their entire career), but the canisters in the Scaring School hall do seem to denote that they also have records for most amount of scream energy gathered in one scare. That's what Hardscrabble seems to have won, anyway.

1) Pixar said they debated what to do about the line in the first movie a lot. In the end they decided to just pretend as if Mike was exaggerating because they really didn't feel they could tell the story they wanted to otherwise.

2) Because that didn't count. They broke an insane amount of rules, almost got caught by humans, caused a lot of destruction, and were expelled for it. While I'm sure it became sort of a legend at the school, there's no way that the powers that be were going to allow them to claim that record. Plus they DID break the record through scaring a ton of people at once, as opposed to just one kid like presumably the other records were.

That bugged me, too! I spent the last eleven years imagining them running around in elementary school together. Maybe this movie can count as John Lasseter's glorified fan fiction?
