2 - Why would you? My girlfriend's just gotten a teaching job, and she hasn't given it up. She just keeps her fandom-stuff out of her job stuff, and it's worked out fine for her so far.

Well, it really helps that she doesn't write smut of any sort. Online there's absolutely nothing at all to connect her fandom identity with her RL identity, and it's not something she ever talks about with people she knows IRL unless they're fandom too, so...
