Fans of Star Trek TNG unite!

I dunno, I was just thinking about how much I love the show and thought I'd see if any other fans wanted a chance to gush pointlessly a bit. Go!

I was just re-watching some TNG episodes last night, and I have come to the conclusion that Worf is the best fictional character in anything ever.

WRONG Riker is the best ever. And also Doctor Crusher (and also O'Brien, but we're kind of straying from TNG territory there, because the things that make him the best don't really happen in TNG)

But yeah Worf is totally awesome.

TNG is the best!

I don't have any real substantive comment to make, so instead I'm going to talk about how awesome the Marina Sirtis / Jonathan Frakes commentary track for Insurrection is. It's great, and everybody should watch it. They have great chemistry and are full of wonderful in-jokes. Sirtis can remember pretty much nothing that happens in the movie and Frakes has to explain pretty much the entire plot of the movie to her, and the way that they react to things that happen are absolutely great. It's just a totally fucking adorable commentary , and it's almost certainly the best way to watch Insurrection, because the movie itself is kind of a turd. So check it out. It used to be up on Youtube, but I think it got deleted (or at least most of it did), but it's very worth watching if you can get your hands on it.

So, uh, yeah. Yay TNG!

I used to watch it when I was little and I'm really fond of it,even though I don't remember much.I remember disliking Deanna Troi and Riker, but I loved Worf and Geordi and Picard. And Beverly Crusher, that woman was fierce and badass. Lwaxana/Picard OTP.

Oh good, I'm not alone in my dislike of Riker.

Although he's still more tolerable than Wesley.

It gave us the best way to punish a whole area code: Tibbles.

[Okay, okay - I *loved* it when the episodes did silly, cracky stuff that wound never fly with the franchise now days.]

I love this show so much. Words cannot express it. It was always there in my childhood, and there was a period about seven years ago where my family lived in a hotel while househunting where I watched it every single day and since then I fell completely in love with it :)

I could ramble about how much I love it for ages, but if there's one thing that I love the most about it, it's that it's so totally unflinchingly honest and straightforward and unironic about portraying the characters as sincerely honorable, principled, dedicated to their jobs, passionate, altruistic, and professional, no pulling out the rug and mocking this sincerity by going "haha, they're actually doing this all due to some twisted bitter personal issue other than just plain loving their jobs". And all without making them boringly perfect, because they would lapse into imperfect behavior very often, but those were always portrayed AS understandable lapses or obstacles to be overcome, not integral static parts of their characters.

There was never any trace of embarrassment or attempts to downplay the idealizing of human behavior, space exploration, and futuristic society in general (with the pleasing exception of the irritating upper Starfleet bureaucracy, of course), and no condescending message on the part of the writers that flaws are the only interesting parts of a character, or to pander to viewers by dragging the characters down to make them relatable rather than role models (and yet the little character-building moments made them relatable anyway). I also love deconstructive ironic shows full of flaw-defined characters too of course (see: DS9), but I really love that there was one show that completely stayed away from all that, as it's a formula that's gotten really overused in recent years.

I love every character except Pulaski (yes, even Wesley -- he was irritating in the first season, but that was more the writers overusing him as a deus ex machina than anything else), but my favorite by far is Data. In fact, Data is one of my top favorite fictional characters in any TV show ever.

The show's season finale is also one of my top favorite finales of any show ever. However, I cannot fucking abide season 1. Not so much because the plots were terrible (though they were), but because there's something about the tone and style and attitude that's just wrong. On the other hand, seeing the contrast makes me appreciate the later seasons all the more.

I'm not any good at gushing, but I'm happy to get the chance to use this icon!

No, actually, let me gush a little: I loved that TNG didn't shy away from showing adult male characters who don't have Peter Pan complexes as interesting, desirable people. Picard especially, but LaForge, O'Brien, and Worf, too.

I'm watching it all the way through on Netflix right now. It's a pretty fun show! I like Worf and Riker and Geordi and O'Brien and even Wesley, idk I don't get the hate. I'm also really attached to Dr. Pulaski, I think it's because I ship her and Moriarty really hard. (If anyone has recs... yeeeeees, please give them to me. Also, Yar/Worf fics. Ahem.) The special effects are surprisingly good for their time imo, and the whole thing is just really enjoyable. I'm having fun. :D
