Could you beat up the protagonist(s) in your favourite series?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-06 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Saw this on 4chan, and it was pretty amusing.

Dear god no. Pretty much all my favorites have people who are pretty good at fending for themselves in one way or another, and I'm an uncoordinated weakling with a fear of pain.

This, 100%.

Haha, no. I could maybe land a punch on Haruka, but after that, I'd be so fucked. Dude's ripped.

Yea, no. In probably every case I would be beaten severely, in some maybe not even left alive.

Now if the character in question wouldn't have to be the protagonist...maybe I could take out Otacon. (Except that Snake has almost certainly taught him some self-defense, so even if he didn't have access to a gun or one of his gadgets he would probably still be better equipped to hurt me than I him.)

Snake (whether Jack or Dave) I wouldn't even make an attempt against. (Dude can bring down tanks and shit, he ain't having a problem with me.) I'd just hide. Or run.

I'm 100% sure Otacon knows how to defend himself. They didn't say it in canon, but come on, ten years of living on the run? He knows how to kick and run. (And if the indication he tampers with Snake's weapons gives us something, maybe he can even shoot).

Project Itoh's book tells us it was actually Otacon who found an ANCIENT CQC MANUAL and Snake taught himself how to do it. Using Otacon as a punching bag, lol. Yes, it's in the novel. I prefer this variant of canon to the idea Big Boss taught him, tbh.

I think he probably knows the basics (how to throw a punch, where to kick to do the most damage, that sort of thing, and how to fire a gun. If he's good at those things is another question, but I firmly believe that Snake taught him at some point. Otacon was too important for him not to.)

I haven't read that particular novel...maybe I should look it up. The ancient CQC thing is downright hilarious but I like the mental image of poor Hal having to be Snake's 'partner' whilst learning CQC. He better have given him a massage after all that!

Honestly Otacon's more like to take us in and make Sunny cook us eggs. XD

Talk anime and video games with him while Sunny cooks and Snake sits in a corner brooding because Otacon converses too readily with strangers.

SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN.

Um... yeah, I could probably beat up Cucumber. I'd feel pretty bad about it, though. :(

If we're talking Baccano!: Hahahahha no. Almost every character is a protagonist, and every single one would kill me, some with great pleasure. (Okay, maybe not Eve.)

Eve would make you feel really guilty about trying to beat her up, though. She'd probably be the winner in this case. I love that Eve is as badass as the rest of them, just in a different way.

I'm pretty sure I could slap Hannibal Lecter and run away fast enough not to become dinner.

One of them is a former US Army Soldier and the other is a CIA agent so they would probably know clever tricks to knock me out as soon as the fight starts.

Olivia and Peter and Broyles are much too badass for me. If we're both unarmed, Astrid and I *might* draw. And there's always a chance Walter would get distracted by something shiny/too high to fight. But it's kind of bad form to beat up someone who's tripping balls.

Unless Stephen hawking suddenly has a prime time show going, then not a chance. And to be honest the way my health continues to plummet, on an almost daily basis, even if I were being pitted against Hawking, it would still be up for grabs.

Oh, and from one who is, "lame" is not ableist language and is still okay to use. Spaz and twitcher are fine too.

Definitely not, since all my favourite series involve swords and sorcery and trained fighters.

I could maybe take a squishy mage physically if they had no spellbooks on them. Maybe. But most of the main characters are (varying degrees of) tough sword users, so...no.

Depends? I..don't have a set favorite series, and in most series I like they tend to rotate on main character.

So...yes, some. Most no.

I can't beat up anyone. I have to win with charm and trickery.

It doesn't help that I seem to get caught up in fandoms where the main character have superpowers or some kind of equivalent.

Hahaha no.

I probably couldn't beat them up even if they didn't have lasers, and if the one who's a cybernetic killing machine wasn't there.

My favourite series:

Shin Megami Tensei games: Uh no, all the protags could summon demons. Unless I can too, but they'd probably be way more influential on demons than I.

Devil May Cry: Dante. The guy uses guns AND swords. No.

Mass Effect: If the Reapers can't win vs. Shepard I don't have a chance.

Metal Gear: like Elaminator said, Snake can blow up tanks. Raiden can cut them to pieces. Even hiding in a goddamn cardboard box won't save my ass. though I wouldn't object if Raiden was Jack and stalked me...

Mmm, good choices. And I'm talking about things other than Metal Gear, too.

And hiding in a cardboard box MIGHT save your ass if Raiden is anywhere near as unobservant than me. (I only got a couple of those guys the first time. D:)

I think you might object once he impales you. ...With his sword.

Still mmmm.

I think I found 3-4 of them. It mainly happens when I actually REMEMBER I have AR vision. Which isn't. All that much.

I think I'd be too dead to object by that point.

I probably still wouldn't object.

The Winchesters? Dear lord no. Not a chance.

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, maybe. Though I'd be loath to, for fear of subsequent death by ricin or some other means.
