Omegaverse is something I have a love/hate relationship with. I am completely uninterested in the sex and noncon stuff. I generally don't like how even the world construction deals with the inequality.

The thing is, I am interested in gender dynamics and exploring them. Omegaverse fucks with gender dynamics so much and at the same time can make it relatable to our system in some rare cases. So I think someone could do something really cool with it. I'm just not sure how. I'm reminded of an old secret where they said they wanted a war/revolution. I think that might be interesting.

As for you not getting it... uh... great? Like, you don't have to? I don't get the extreme love or hate people have for Justin Bieber but I realize that, you know, other people aren't my mind clones and so they think/feel/exist differently. I may meet someone and never understand them as a person, to their core, and that's okay. So when you get to the little things like kinks? It really doesn't matter much at all.

I'm with you on the good ship Voice of Reason. :D A/B/O is a weird mash-up of some kinks I love (gender dynamics, characters rebelling against 'fated' destinies, intense/endurance sex), some things that do nothing for me either way (soul bonds), and some things that hit me right in the Do Not Want (rape/dubcon, mpreg, characters embracing their 'fated' destiny). A lot depends on the writer; some depends on my mood that particular day.

And absolutely none of that is something I need to tell a roomful of total strangers, especially a roomful of total strangers some of whom quite likely enjoy the thing I don't (always) enjoy. As you say: "getting it" isn't mandatory, and if I don't get it, I don't bring up the topic randomly; the same way I don't hand people on the bus a list of my favourite movies or stop my fellow joggers to tell them that I don't understand why they're wearing headphones.

The destiny/fate thing really gets me too. I think the idea is interesting but I would prefer someone be your soulmate through choice rather than their name being written on your skin from birth, say. I agree it depends on my mood and the writer. For example, I once had a huge hankering after reading a bit for a very specific thing. I was almost tempted to write a soulbond where the character was bonded to someone who died over 100 years ago and their ghost haunts them. The two realize that without the physical compulsion of the bond they don't really want to fall in love and see each other more as friends. This leads the living character to look for love among the unbonded/people who buck the bond.

I guess I can understand the OP doing it here. It is F!S after all. This is kind of what this place is made for. So I guess I was just trying to reassure the OP that it's okay. Although, I have seen a lot of conversations about it that aren't here at F!S that I thought were kind of pointless, as you say.

This is the kink that I want to know about. I have googled, and I was sure it had to be from a YA novel or something, but I've found nothing.

It's something someone came up with on the Hobbit Kink Meme on LJ (http://hobbit-kink.livejournal.com/) that became popular on the meme.

People are either born with, or have appear when they reach puberty, the name of their soulmate as a tattoo on their wrist. Some versions have different colours meaning different types of relationship (friendship/platonic, romantic, broken/dead). Some versions have the mark a picture of varied elaborateness, and in different places than just the wrist. Some prompts have the mark come up in the native language of the person who it names (like Bilbo having a mark in Angerthas - Dwarvish rules - and having to find someone who can translate, or Thorin having his mark in Westron long before he knew how to read that language).

I know hunting through the meme for fics is not easy, but you can look up "soul matks" on AO3, and the meme has a Delicious Archive (https://delicious.com/hobbitkinkmeme) going as well.

Actually, it's all over Ao3. It's in at least Sherlock, Avengers, The Hobbit, and Teen Wolf.

I first saw it on the Hobbit kink meme. I don't know if someone brought it there from another fandom or if it's spread out from there by multifandom fans. Sherlock is even harder to tell because of the actor crossover causing modern AU reincarnation crossover fics.

Yeah, when I jump fandom (as I did when The Hobbit came out) I start out pretty singleminded about my new fandom. It hasn't worn off yet, and I'm kinda expecting it not to for at least another couple of years with the next two movies adding new material for fics.

So I may have come straight from SPN, but I'm not in the mental space to go looking through it's fics.
