I literally broke down sobbing today while mowing the lawn because my best friend sent me a message.

I don't want to talk to her. I can't talk to her. Every time I talk to her I feel like shit, like I can never say the right thing and whatever I do isn't good enough. But I can't tell her I want to cut her out of my life because I don't know what she'll do to herself, mentally if not physically.

Just. fuck. There are people in actually abusive situations, I need to grow up and just set some fucking boundaries.

...you are in an emotionally abusive situation jsyk. But
you are right that some serious boundary setting needs to happen and be consistently enforced if there's a chance of salvaging this relationship and your emotional and mental health to do that you need to be honest about what ishappening and stop making excuses and dismissi.ng what this person who is supposed to be your friend is doing. You can't set boundaries if you aren't fully admitting where they should be.

Not to sound like a know-it-all or anything. Just my two cents based on personal experience.

Seconding this. Never downplay what you're going through because some hypothetical strangers have it 'worse'. Look at your own situation. You need to do what's best for your own well-being.
