I'm late, which is prob good cause if I even think this too loudly I sense the attacks coming.

I don't have a problem with the US PRISM program. I also think Snowden is a spy(he said he took the job just to reveal secrets, that is not a whistle-blower) and is definitely not a hero.

These are thought that US citizens on the internet are not supposed to have, and certainly not Liberals (though I'm a bit between left of center and center). If I were to actually say this off anon or in my own journal I would be ripped to shreds, so I just keep quiet because I'm afraid of the verbal abuse I would receive.

I'm pretty torn about him, tbh. What he revealed is something I think people should know. But I also think he's despicable for violating his non-disclosure agreement, going public with classified information, and especially for taking the job just to get in position to reveal secrets.

So how do you think people ought to find out about shit like this, then?

I figure there just isn't a non-asshole way to do it. You have to be an asshole to deal with the real assholes, this is how life works.

I don't think there is, either. That's why I'm torn. I'm very emotional about the whole thing because I don't trust the government and actually fear it to an extent, which in turn makes me very angry. But I'm also the kind of person who just follows rules, like it's in my blood that I can never break a law and when someone violates laws and a contract that includes trust, as Snowden did, it makes me angry. So...yeah. Torn.

:/ yeah, that gets tricky when rules are being exploited by sociopaths. I went through similar regarding rules-following during a personal dispute many years ago, so I figure it's good to get angry, get emotional about this stuff and feel it all out in your spine, figure out where you stand and how to morally protect yourself and your community. I am like brb rereading V For Vendetta this week, anyways.

So don't you have a problem with the NSA lying to Congress about what information they were collecting? Or with laws being passed in secret?

DA

The laws weren't really secret though, anyone who actually payed attention to the patriot act knew that the government would be able to do this legally and probably were. I was surprised so many people were actually shocked by it.

IA, I don't think anyone should have been surprised, but the question remains, who is allowed to speak out when officials lie to Congress? No one?
