I have this pet idea that one of the mainstays of Free Will (from a very Christian perspective on the subject) is that animals cannot defy their instincts/biological drive, while humans can.
I also have a love/hate relationship with other types of soulbonding/fated-to-be fics for the same reason.
I particularly hate fics of any of these sort (A/B/O or soulbonding) where the bond makes the couple instantly perfectly in love. I wish more writers would face the fact that such bonds would NOT make the relationship perfect.
A soulbond/soul-mark/A/O mating would not stop Bilbo stealing the Arkenstone if he thought that would stop a war from happening. (Why yes I'm in the Hobbit fandom! Why do you ask?)
I have little problem with knotting (especially after a few HP animagus fics I read back in the day), I don't particularly mind mpreg, and I love a good fic where characters defy the societal model that makes omegas institutionalized ukes. I just don't like the failure to acknowledge the dub-con elements, and the idea that mating means the relationship is ~perfect~.
However, if you dislike the whole thing, I have no problem with that either. Everyone has different tastes, and I fully acknowledge that A/B/O is a pretty unique set of tastes that is not up everyone's alley. I hope you can keep scrolling past those prompts to find stuff you like better.
