Is it hard to find the address of a celebrity? It seems like it would not be.

It depends. I think you can tour in celebrities's neighbourhoods in in some cities, and they tell you who lives where. Also, whenever a celebrity buys a house, depending on the celebrity, it finds its way in the media.

Others are pretty low-key and private.

You can pay for the addresses of celebs if you are so inclined. If they live in a big enough real estate market (Southern California for example) real estate sites might have the info. Sometimes they use married or real (not stage) names which makes it difficult to find. I think I've looked up the addresses of almost all the actors in my fandom at some point or another. Never did anything with the info, but it killed some time on the internet.

Many genre fans live in Canada, I wonder if public records allow you to search for them like they do in the US?

Since it's a matter of public record, probably not. However, because it's so easy to find out who owns properties, it's a privacy and security issue and, according to an entertainment news show (I can't remember which one), a lot of celebrities will set up a trust or something similar to buy a place.

I believe this anon found a website of the famous person's wife, then used a whois website to find the address, and subsequently felt like Batman. Could've been a different anon, I guess...

More than a year ago, I made a secret about finding the home address of my favorite celebrity. Since then, he put his house up for sale and detailed pictures of the interior were posted on a real estate website. I don't do anything with the information... except use it as reference material for daydreams and my Real Person Fic.

There's something to be said for keeping this info private, but... I guess, how did you know in the first place? Did you come across the info somehow or did you stalk around for it? If it's the latter then you're creepy, if it's the first... eh, it happens, and you kept it private which means you have some kind of respect for this person (even with the daydreams part... you're only human and you're not forcing these fantasies on anyone so eh, don't care)

If all you're doing is looking at the real estate website, I don't see a problem. I heard rumors that when Simon le Bon put his house up for sale, there were Duranies who actually booked showings with the real estate agent even though there was no way in hell they could afford to buy the place.

Good for you for not giving out all the details on the internet. A couple years ago I stumbled on the address of on of my all time favorite stars. I have been his fan for over 20 years. I wasn't looking for his address but I was reading about Old Hollywood and they gave out some addresses of some of the old places and I remembered hearing he bought an old house from someone who was a sorta somebody back in the day. It was really tempting to share that information with my little fandom but I passed because it just wouldn't be fair to him. And I would feel responsible if someone did something stupid with the information like show up at his door. But I did a lot of looking on Google Maps...LOL

You're a Jensen Ackles fan aren't you? Been in fandom since I was 13 and I'm 25 now and his fans are still the craziest and rudest ones I have come across. Tell me fellow anons, what are the craziest fans you've interacted with? I'd come at the Snape-wives too, but my older sister was one and I think she was so rabid cause she has a lot of emotional issues and real life problems, and I don't think she was a douche to anyone online or involved in wank, so :/
