Dude, I'm with you. Xros Wars was very meh to me, and Hunters freakin' sucked. What an absolute waste of inter-continuity crossover at the end there. :( I'm probably even worse of a fan than you are, though, because I couldn't get into Savers either. :\

Not OP, but I share your feelings. Savers had a different feel to it. I "liked" it, but I wouldn't call it my favorite. Something just felt... off, you know?

I'll be weird with you, not only do I prefer season 2 to season 1, season 2 is actually my favorite out of all the seasons :)

Not secret: I love Digimon. The anime, the games, the music, everything about it.

The secret? I only like the first five seasons of the anime. I cannot stand the sixth. In the Digimon fandom, if you don't like the sixth season you either have your nostalgia goggles (no pun intended) on too tight or you're not a "true" fan of the series. I don't like Shoutmon and find him to be annoying, and the fact that all the other Digimon are just add-on weapons for him is terrible. Not to mention the fact that most of the female characters are purely fan service. I'm tired of being ostracized for how I feel about this.

As someone else put it, that season isn't Digimon. It's a different anime with Digimon as guest stars.

I was never really sure what to get into after season 3. I tried 3 and loved it (Impmon is my favorite antihero ever), and tried 1 and thought it was okay but not really my thing. I've heard that 5 kind of sucks, and that the others are more like 1 than like 3.

Season 3 was probably the darkest out of all the seasons, but 5 comes close. It's more "mature" than the other seasons. 3 at least had some humor in it (Kazu and Kenta, Guilmon and Terriermon being silly, Calumon in general, Impmon before the kids went to the Digital World) to balance out the seriousness, but 5 is mostly serious. There's a few jokes but they mainly revolve around Masaru and Agumon competing with each other or one of the other team members picking on Masaru, but for the most part it's not a particularly lighthearted season.

The main villain of the season is probably the darkest villain of the whole franchise, so I'd suggest watching it just to see what he's like. I enjoyed season 3 and found 5 to be similar, but not as enjoyable. And yes, 2 and 4 are more like 1, so if you weren't very fond of 1, you can skip those. 2 is definitely skippable if you didn't like 1.

Right there with you, anon (though it's the first four seasons for me -- I've actually only seen a few eps of Savers). I was really excited when Xros Wars was announced because "Yay new Digimon series!" but I ended up dropping it about halfway through. It wasn't even that I openly disliked it, I just found it so mediocre I couldn't keep up interest in it. I didn't even really drop the series so much as got several episodes behind and never really had the motivation to catch up.

First three for me. I never got into anything after Tamers. There were ridiculous bits here and there in season two, but I still liked it.

I've seen bits of Frontier and...eh...it felt more like a sentai show, which is okay, but it's not really Digimon to me.

Well, I only liked the first three seasons. And that's putting it kindly, because the third was only okay to me. I like to pretend anything after that doesn't exist.

Seasons 1 and 3 were the best

02 started great but became shit...Frontier also started good but it became the Takuya and Kouji show...

Savers were great but the character development wasn't as great like the other seasons.

Xros Wars was a hot mess, especially Hunters, Former Leaders be damned.

I'm with you. A friend of mine told me he tried to get into Xros Wars but dropped it as a warning when I told him I was going to start watching. I couldn't really make it through even the second episode. I want to watch it especially now that it's getting dubbed, but can't seem to become interested.

Haven't really seen Savers. Like Frontier but 02 is where my heart will always belong.

I never really got into anything past 02. I've been watching Tamers recently and enjoying it well enough but I just don't have the same level of attachment to any of its characters that I did for the Adventures kids.

From the corners of the Digimon fandom I've seen, Adventure and Tamers were the best ones, 02 and Savers were okay but not as good, and Frontier was terrible. I haven't lurked Digimon fandom since before Xross Wars so I don't know how everyone reacted to that, nor have I seen it.

Then again, I myself am one of those people everybody hates who thinks that Adventure was the best and nothing since can even hold a candle to it.

I wanted to like Xros Wars! I really did. I went in all ready to love the main because I love child genius characters. But nothing could save either parts of the show for me, and the fanservice was really rather awful.

I've actually never been that into Digimon save for Tamers and the Wonderswan games, but I at least LIKED seasons 1-4 (Frontier has it's faults, I won't lie, but at least it tried to be charming). There just wasn't anything for me to like in Xros Wars.

My problem was the human characters. Taiki had no flaws, no Dark Digivolutiobs triggered by those flaws, etc. (and yes, Davis/Daisuke didn't have a berserk Digimon on his hands, but he had flaws). The other characters had about zero to two traits if you count Young Hunters. As someone who grew up memorizing the evolution of the Adventure kids (especially Tai), this displeases me.
