It isn't?

So...what is it? Music videos?

Vocaloid is a music voice synthesizer software program that has the characters associated with different voices. People have created a lot of music using the software, and the actual content (music videos, songs, art) is pretty much mostly made by fans and amateurs.

Well...that's creative. So it's like people making a fandom around Microsoft Sam. Somewhat.

Sort of, I guess? The characters are cute and anime, which helps, I think, and there's actually a lot of creativity in the music. I don't follow Vocaloid stuff much, but I know there's a ton of really great composers writing for it. My favorite music composer, Maeyamada Kenichi, used vocaloid for one of the first things.

Though I don't even know how many fans go for the music and how many fans go because the characters are cute.

I could be wrong because I don't follow the Vocaloid fandom, but the thing I personally think is so cool about vocaloid is just how homespun it all is. People make songs who might not have had the means to do otherwise, people make the videos, etc. A large part of what makes vocaloid cool is the fact that it's homemade, and I can see people not liking the idea of an official anime.

Yeah, and I think part of the big appeal of the Vocaloid fandom and such is that there is no real canon, so to speak, other than the designs and even that is changed. The characters don't have any backstories or personalities from what I can see, though I'm also not a follower of the fandom. I can see why an official anime might annoy fans because it's taking away that aspect.

well, vocaloid has always been a fandom that thrived on the creativity of the fandom itself, a very versatile thing that you could use to do just about anything. I can imagine there is a lot of people who would fear losing that spirit compared to the kinda of fandom that usually comes with an anime.

Plus, you said it in you secret right? Potentially awesome if done by the right people. But seriously, who would you choose for the right people? What story line would you even choose? One based on one of the more popular song combos, or a more slice of life approach like is done in the manga? There is so many variables and risk for it going really shittily, I can see why people wouldn't be interested in it at all.

because it will shatter people's headcanons mercilessly, i guess

also, like you said, it depends on who gets to work on it. i don't think those chances look very good

[Picture is Miku Hatsune, the Vocaloid mascot and singing synthesizer application. She is a young anime-style character with pale skin, blue eyes, and extremely long greenish-blue hair pulled up in two pigtails on the upper sides of her head. She wears headphones, black sleeves, a black, blue and white sleeveless dress and long black thigh-high boots. The picture in the secret is sourced to RileyAV on deviantART and tumblr.]

I don't get why the Vocaloid fandom is so vehemently opposed to the idea of an official anime. I think it could potentially turn out awesome if done by the right people. It could be like a cross between Tron and Jem and the Holograms!

Yeah, the one thing that makes the Vocaloid fandom a bit different is that the music and videos are mostly made by fans and musicians. In a way, it kinda reminds me of Touhou a bit.

Lets just hope that if they do make the anime they would choose the right people to make it.

There are several mangas and plays, so I don't even get why they could be against an anime ;/

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
There was an anime. It was called Black Rock Shooter. And it's probably why people don't want another one.
