Not necessarily. Your lack of recs might not be about your writing at all.

Fandom is weird like that.

You might ship an unpopular pairing. Or not ship a pairing at all. People might want more sex in fic...or less. More kink, or less kink. Depending on the fandom, and even which part of fandom, this might be the reasons for (un)popularity. I've seen some really badly written fics be very popular because they were basically fan service.

Basically: your writing, character-building and storytelling MIGHT be great, you might just not be writing what people want. In that case you need to figure out your priorities. Write what you want, or write what you think others will like.

Getting several opinions is not a bad idea, though.

True. If OP wants recs they should write an old style genderbend fic where a male character gets magically turned female, wangst about it for a chapter or two then accepts their new life. I guarantee that no matter the fandom, it will be recced pretty quickly. Of course the OP will also get a lot of SJ hate mail, but for all that hate mail from the narrow group of waaah-realism will be loud and vitriolic, the recs will just pile up and the other congrats and reviews will pile up too.

I came here to say all of this. If you need need need recs, find the pairing/trope combination that gets the attention in you fandom and bang away at it. Cater to the audience and things might just change.

If your writing actually is any good and not just your beta flattering you then firing out a dozen crappy low quality shipping fics is almost a dead cert to get you recced for the one decent non-shipping fic. The rec will probably go like this "Sweetpuckeredanus usually writes Stalin/Pol-Pot fics but has managed one decent one on Holocaust Bear Baiting. As long as you skip the communist stuff he's okay". You chum the water with crap to attract the frenzy, and then the one non-total turd looks like the koh-i-noor in comparison.

Based on your last 2 sentences alone, I would read your fic ANYTIME.
