(Anonymous) 2013-07-08 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)That said, the amount of recs (or kudos or reviews or whatever your personal goal is) a fic gets is not necessarily correlated with the quality of it. I've seen fics I thought were awful being touted at the be-all and end-all of their fandoms, and I've read some truly great fics that are bafflingly overlooked by its fandom (though I see awful fics being touted as awesome waaay more than I see good fics overlooked tbh) It really depends on what you're writing, what pairing, what genre and sometimes a story's popularity is just pure luck, being friends with the right people at the right time or your fic having a popular trope.
It sucks to lack reviews/recs/whatever else, yes (I've been in this situation many times due to my attachment to small fandoms), but it isn't necessarily anything to do with you (and is very unlikely to be anything to do with your beta). It *could* be that your fic isn't very good, of course, but lack of popularity isn't an indicator of it.
