Late to the party, but hey, what the hell, right?

I get recced a lot. I can tell you that what the other people have said above me is absolutely true - at least half the time I get recced is because people want to kiss my ass because of some perceived status that I have within fandom (read: they want me to rec their stuff at some unspecified later date). The other half is because my friends rec me automatically.

Recs are super clique-y. I'm in one, we all know it, but we're friends and that's how friends act.

All of which is to say that getting recced or not getting recced has pretty much nothing to do with your worth as an author or your beta's work as a proofreader. Keep doing what you're doing, and try to ignore the static.
