Re: No Anne Rice stop it

I think it's exploded because, if I'm not mistaken, Paula was a rather large celebrity (?) and people are rather upset on both sides. It makes sense to me that she got fired (i'd certainly get a final warning on calling people niggers at my job, and I'm a nobody) and a celebrity being fired always seems to come with controversy :/

I think calling it a mob would have been fine, calling it a lynch mob in a topic on racism when all that is happening is angry discussions on the internet seems a very bad word choice to me :/ She couldnt' call it a hunt or condemnation or overreaction? :C

That and her arguments that people are secretly hating on her for being white/female/fat/southern (while I'm sure some are) seems incorrect compared to the surprise!racism

I thought it was pretty insulting that the suit was brought up by a white woman. Yep, Jackson is WHITE. It smacks of "Oh hey racism, check please?"

*That, and I doubt Paula Deen's life has been destroyed. Consequences for being racist in a work place and under the spot light of being a cooking celebrity.

I'm not too sympathetic because here, in Aus, we've had quite a few people going on racist rants outside of work - the majority have been charged, lost their job or both as a result. So Paula Deen's consequences seem quite minor to me (she gets to finish her contract?) - just big because so many people know who she is

(I don't, not until Anne Rice brought it up on her facebook)
thene: Naomi Hunter is very suspicious. (naomi)

I lived in Atlanta for four years and I can totally get how southern culture managed to produce Paula Deen and insulate her so thoroughly from the consequences of her racism, but that just makes me all the more happy to see someone shine a torch through the shit cobwebs of the shit dungeon that is white southern racism.

Yeah, but should a white woman really be the one to do this?

Do we really care about the ethnicity of the person who called her out? At least somebody did. It's not like white people somehow don't understand racism just because they're white :|a

thread OP

...why would that matter? She told someone something horribly racist while bein an influential figure, that person informed people that she hold's these views, Paula dug herself a bigger hole and her employment was terminated.

It doesn't matter what colour the person she told her views too her released them, what important is she holds these horrible views, continued to hold them and is only apologetic because she lost her job :/
thene: Fang, with her back turned. Fate is not kind to those who leap. (oerba yun fang)

Would you prefer it if no one did it? (This is a lot of how it works, anyway - it's the shit they say when there's only whites in the room and they feel 'safe' in the white supremacy bubble. So there's going to be irl social situations where only whites are positioned to call out other whites.)
