Taken from a movie I am planning to watch if I can find it:

There are eight people in a room. Six of them are holding blank pieces of paper. One of them is sitting at the front of the room, and another one is guarding the door. The man at the front of the room gives the following instructions:

"There is no law in this room but our law, and the only rules in here are our rules. There is one question before you, and one answer is required. If you try to communicate with myself or the guard, you will be disqualified. If you spoil your paper, intentionally or accidentally, you will be disqualified. If you choose to leave this room for any reason, you will be disqualified. Any questions?"

What does the successful candidate have to do?

Writes "no" on their paper? That would appear to be the "one question before you, and one answer is required," and they can't communicate with the speaker to respond verbally. Unless writing "no" would count as communicating, in which case, the correct response would be to do nothing. I think.

But doesn't that count as 'spoiling the paper'?

I don't know what spoiling the paper means, I guess.

Not answer the only question that was posed, which is "Any questions?" They must not communicate with the guard or the man at the front, and saying "yes" or "no" count as interacting, so not giving an answer is the right answer.

I'm not going to say, but this is a really good movie that people should see.
