So why do you read them? Is the plot super good> Or is it loyalty to the author?

The plots are pretty generic, really. They'd generally be fun little popcorn books, if I didn't spend half the time cursing Harry for being a sexist and an idiot.

I like the universe, I like the other characters, a large number of my friends have read them, and the GM of my gaming group has partially based the magic system in the universe we play in on the one in the Dresden books.

So, between there being a bunch of stuff I do like, and a few real-world things making me feel obligated...I put up with Harry (though I am currently taking a break from pushing through them to read China Mieville's Bas-Lag books).
