So did I, man. I just thought I'd mention it because entertainment tends to favor straight men more than gay men, especially if a gay man in question happens to be a drag queen. Hell, look at how much the media gushed over Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal for "Brokeback Mountain" while gay men have been playing straight men for years with no fanfare.

Just like there are sexist gay men, not all drag queens are sexist. *slow clap*

...I think most of the praise had to do with the plot of Brokeback Mountain and the fact that it had major Hollywood backing.

I mean Rock Hudson being a passable straight guy isn't exactly subversive on a cultural level.

And the plot of Brokeback? Still lame. Gee, forbidden homosexual love that ends tragically because of society's oppression, I've never seen THAT a million times before!

Um, none. It's because John Waters cast Divine in a shit ton of his films. Which, given that they started in the 60s wasn't exactly a common thing to do.

Um, well..given that Waters wrote the role for a drag queen friend of his [Divine], I suspect it had more to do with 'Giving a role to a friend' than 'NO OVER-WEIGHT WOMENS!' - particular since both the main freaking character and Motermouth Maybelle were also over-weight women.

Yes, thank you. It baffles me that so many people here have missed the friggin' point. It's not ZOMG SEXISM!!1!1 if A. The main character and Motormouth Maybelle are played by plus-sized women. B. The role is given to a drag queen and he's not being goddamn ridiculed for it.
