Honestly? I think that Cousland is totally the one in charge in that power dynamic, and if she decides, Alistair will go along even if reluctantly. It is after all a bit of a self-insert fantasy where even though there's backstory, the protagonist is basically you.

[Picture is white and red text over a blank black background. The fandom is listed as "Dragon Age: Origins".]

[The following text is in white]

Hey again. So I'm the one who posted the confession about how tainted babies or lack thereof doesn't seem to be an issue between Alistair and Cousland. This has been translated into Cousland hate. I'd just like to point out that Cousland is actually one of my favourite Wardens to play, I was just pointing out that it kinda sucks that such a big issue isn't even mentioned in the Cousland/Alistair ending...

[The following text is in red]

I hate that you can't express an opinion on the human!Warden origin that isn't blindingly positive without people crying "OH MY GOD COUSLAND HATE".

Secret because: This isn't blindingly positive; therefore it's "hate".

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
...what? I'm a huge DA fan, but I can't see how anyone could hate the warden, being as they don't have any inherent personality....

also, I gay romanced Alistair. No babies for us.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
How does one gay-romance Alistair? I didn't think you could.

Mods, anon!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I...thought the issue about babies had been made pretty clear in game? Namely that wardens weren't able to *have* kids because of the taint?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Same here. If the kingdom doesn't learn this wee fact, I'm sure that Cousland and Alistair would steal some babies ;) (er, adopt ... unoficially) . There was this large pressure on "royal blood" after all.

Conveniently enough, if you went the Dark Ritual route, there's already a candidate for unofficial adoption out there!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's been so much stupid wank about Cousland, I think some people are just completely worn out about it. On the one hand, Princess Cousland diehards have a tendency to erase the other origins (especially re: romancing Alistair) and are always demanding DA stuff that centers on their Cousland and Alistair being married. It's annoying.

On the other hand, there's a lot of kneejerk reactionary bullshit that denigrates all f!Cousland players as being shallow bitches only in it for the sparkle princess fluff, which has always bothered me because this sort of thing isn't aimed at male players who romanced Morrigan and demanded/scored a relatively happy ending with her. It's reserved for female players who play female characters and it deems certain experiences as lesser. That's shitty, too.

However, I tend to agree that most people are too sensitive about their preferences in Dragon Age games, and feel threatened in a personal way by people who play differently. I've gotten into enough stupid arguments about origin v. origin and class v. class to last me a lifetime and it's all ridiculous because it comes down to what a particular player enjoys most and how they connect to the characters/game/lore.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to sacrifice my female Cousland to save Alistair ('cause hell if I was going to make him sleep with someone he hates!)

Instead the idiot wouldn't let me. :(

That's why I'm modding that out of my game. Alistair steals enough of my PC's kills already without taking her moment of glory away from her.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I recruited Loghain and made him secrifice himself/do the ritual. Alistair is not amused about it and leaves the party for the rest of the game, but that way both he and my warden survive and don't have to sleep with anyone else.
I guess if you go that route, you could have your Warden sacrifice herself?

ME TOO. IT WAS PAINFUL.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
This is pretty ridiculous! Cousland has a bit more of a back story than any other PC but they're all blank slates character-wise. I had a playthrough as a completely evil, prejudiced Warden who seduced Alistair for power and beforehand I had finished the game with a "let's help EVERYONE!" Cousland whom Alistair crushed on (a dude, but one mod made a conflict and buttrose happened, I wouldn't have turned him down if it hadn't broke the game dialogues xD). The Anon above mentions it's directed at female players, might be onto something - F!Shepard got similar hate because of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Cousland has a bit more of a back story than any other PC

not really tho

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
all this secret reminded me was of how annoying and boring and blah cousland is and i fucking hate that i am gonna have to be a human AGAIN in dragon age 3

fuck it

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I had my heart set on finally being a kossith like Sten. Bah.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Or at least some of the "classic" races - I mean, what's the point of having a fantasy world with different races and a character creation when you only can play as a boring human? I'm a boring human every fucking day!

I'M also scared of having to suffer through a whole game full of fake French accent, considering it was hinted that most of it takes place in Orlais...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
i'll never stop being amazed that the human noble origin being the most popular when it is the dullest and most generic of them all.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I mean all the origins have good writing, but the Couslands have every dull fantasy trope in the book and it's annoying. If you want a royal family story, the Aeducan origin is far more original and interesting, and hey! You still get to be a princess!

I didn't see that secret, but that is the main reason I was REALLY surprised there were so many Queen Cousland/Prince Cousland stuff, it's like... but the taint. Like it seems really irresponsible.

Then again my story went, hardened Alistair, couldn't bring myself to cut him down when he was taking responsibility so set him up with Anora and he broke up with me, took him on the dragon hunt and he apologized and sacrificed himself when I was going to do that. And then I went out of my room and announced, while crying. "My boyfriend broke up with me and then apologized and threw himself on a dragon and died."

So you know. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait a second, I thought it wasn't impossible for Wardens to have babies, just really hard?
