[Welcome to Night Vale]

Oh yeah, I'm right there with you. I really hope it doesn't happen because it's such an innocent, fun little project. Still...

[Picture is a computer icon with Windows Media Player's "play" button on it. The icon is a purple night sky with an ominous eye floating in the sky, with the crescent moon as part of the iris of the eye. On the land is a phone pole, a water tower and a small hill or mountain with a television antenna next to it. At the bottom of the icon are the words "WELCOME TO NIGHT", with the "play" button covering the last word. The fandom is listed as "Welcome to Night Vale".]

I'm expecting wank in this fandom by...the end of the year? Purely because I have low hopes.

Secret because: Speak of the devil. And one of the things I like about this is the relatively tame fandom.

fandoms are incapable of wanking.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
You mean incapable of not wanking, I assume?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's already happening. I've seen people policing how you're allowed to interpret the series by way of ~friendly reminder (stupid flower-wearing anime face)~ passive-aggressiveness. So...yeah, I guess what the anon above me said; there's no escaping wank in fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
As long as people keep the wank out of the faces of the writers and shit, fine.

Yeah, I am not too happy with some of the whininess that's been cropping up as of late. Granted, I give that perhaps a few fans were using loaded language with their ideas about Night Vale's headcanon, but tbh the response of the other fans put me off contributing to the Tumblr fan section at all.

What would the wank be about? I haven't really interacted with the fandom much...

it's a show that obviously doesn't take itself very seriously and seems to be conducted with the ultimate goal of fun. i can't even begin to imagine what the wank would be about.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
the wankiest fandoms are from fun canons that don't take themselves too seriously. homestuck, for example.

The bits I've seen so far are about people's "Carlos or Cecil is unmedicated/everything in NV is a delusion" headcanons, and the fact that the Apache Tracker gets a redemption arc, and I do think both of things have valid criticisms to be raised.

Discussions of problematic aspects of a work's fanon or canon can be engaging and interesting, as long as people don't get too whiny about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-12 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand how this is even a fandom.
