Foyle's War. I think it's a testament to excellence in restraint, and intelligent writing and intelligent ACTING. Their episodes are exceptionally well-researched, with only one glaring historical inaccuracy ("Bad Blood" arg!) in seasons 1-6, I haven't seen 7 yet. Anthony Horowitz created memorable characters with a great sense of their period and circumstances. The cast followed through on that gift by turning out deft performances every time. Michael Kitchen as Foyle does SO MUCH with very few lines, just an incredible subtle expression here and there- very much in line with Alec Guinness as George Smiley.

I LOVE Foyle's War, and no joke, Michael Kitchen's portrayal of Foyle is some of the best acting work I've ever seen in my life. He completely inhabits that character in a way that blows my mind, like, you can see him thinking Foyle's thoughts as though they were his own (if that makes sense). He just IS Foyle. ♥ ♥ ♥
