never seen the show, can somebody elaborate on what the ending and the implications are? All I know is it's something about somebody going to the past.

life on mars is about a cop who has a car accident and ended up in 1973. at the end of the series he wakes up from a coma back into the real world, and finds it lacking. this sequence happens.

Ashes to Ashes is about another cop who got shot in the head and that sent her back to the '80s. in the end, she realizes she (and the previous cop) were in purgatory, as in their cases neither of them had actually truly died, and the cast who stayed around for both series were as well. it ends with her ~moving on~, so to speak.

Also, heaven was a pub. Most British thing I've ever seen on screen.

Thanks for this, I didn't finish A2A, I liked it well enough, but didn't love it like LOM, so just sort of forgot to finish watching. (I do that a lot!)

Thing is I think that was implied in LOM, but the very end still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If they were in pergatory, why did Sam go back to his present?

1973 is purgatory, where Sam went while he was still in a coma. He woke up from it, bringing him back to the present. By committing suicide, he died and went back, as you can hear in that radio playing in Gene's car until Sam changes the station.
