Re: Older PC video game recs for non-gaming laptop?

Fallout 1, 2 are the greatest PC RPGs ever made (and IMO its contemporaries pale in comparison) -- and Tactics if you're into squad strategy; Thief 1, 2 (and possibly 3, if your laptop can cut it -- it's 9 years old but the engine is an unoptimized piece of poopoo.) Thief (especially the second) has loads and loads of fanmissions, so you'll have plenty of content to go through. I'd also recommend System Shock 2, as well -- you don't need to have played SS1, which is harder to find (though it technically is abandonware) and harder still to get running unless you can find one of the special fan-made setups that make things easier.

"The greatest PC RPGs ever made" certainly sound good, thank you!

...these are all going to freak me out, aren't they?

Not!OP
*pokes you* 90% of the games I've bought in the past 7 months have been more or less influenced by you. And this post was the last push I needed to buy the Fallout pack on Steam at half-price. I clearly have weak willpower.

Excellent. Allow me to link you to things that make them awesome:

Fallout 1 FIXT:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57362

Collects the TeamX Unofficial patches as well as a few other things. When you install, I personally recommend that when given the option for mutant invasions, keep it simple: go with the default 1.1/1.2 vanilla option, where the mutants only invade Necropolis after 110 days. I also recommend you skip the weapon drops mod.

Fallout 2 Unofficial Patch/Restoration Project (one is vanilla fixes, the other adds some content that was cut from the final game, up to you what to pick but I can vouch for the new material, the EPA alone is better than most of the vanilla game.) Don't install the ammo fix.
