Darn straight. I hated what the writers did with her, it was almost like they were intentionally hating on the fans who had asked for a female Robin. A "here's your girl Robin, now see how sucky and faily she is" mentality.

Have we got Steph in the nu52 yet btw, or are we just pretending she has less of an existence than Power Girl's boob window?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She's not anywhere in the new 52. PG's boob window came back, but not Steph. There was some controversy over the way she was supposed to appear in the Smallville comic and was replaced by Babs... But I think she's in Little Gotham (out of continuity) and made an appearance in Batman, Inc (set pre-reboot).

They don't even let her or Cass appear in alternate universes (Smallville) or the comic where Damian - who is dead - stars (Little Gotham)

Is beyond petty at this point.

Steph is awesome and rad forever

To bad she's tainted forever by horrible writing.

Aw Steph I always hated her treatment in the comics. Al the boy robins get spinoffs but the girls don't exist anymore. Because if there is anything dc comics are lacking it if angsty white guys.

On a related note am I the only one who thinks it's wierd that barbera gorden is still batgirl. Isn't she a bit old for that?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping the Joker will still pop by to put a bullet in her spine and make her return to the infinitely more awesome role she used to fill.

I think everybody has been de-aged by the re-boot, except possibly Kate Kane.

Meh, I always dislike the "female version of male hero" thing. It just seems so very lazy.

She didn't start off as Robin. She was originally called Spoiler and her main conceit was 'spoiling' her dad's plans (he was Z-list Riddler knockoff the Cluemaster.) She was given the Robin mantle after Tim (Robin III) had a hissy fit and quit over Batman's bullshit for a while.

I've only read Steph as Spoiler so far so IDK what kind of Robin she makes, but I think it's pretty neat she got to be Robin. The only other female Robin I know of is in Dark Knight Returns and I hated that comic so damn much that I just try to forget it exists. (She was good, though. One of the few things I liked about it, actually.)

Still, (back to the point) Steph is growing on me.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
If you can, read her Batgirl run! Questionable treatment of Cass aside, Bryan Q. Miller did a good job and made Steph shine.

Okay so I haven't read any comics with Robin!Steph but I've read her Batgirl comics and I just wanna say: when I see photosets and fanart on tumblr with 'all the Robins together!!' and they don't include Steph it makes me D

[Picture is Stephanie Brown dressed up as the superheroine Robin from the DC comic books. She is swinging from a rope over some buildings during nighttime. She is wearing a black and yellow cape, green gloves, green thighs, and a shirt with green sleeves and a red body, with a yellow belt over it. She is wearing a mask that covers only her eyes and the area around them, with the eyes showing as white oval/triangle shapes. She has lightly tanned pale skin, long yellow hair and a black headband holding back her hair from her face. She is smiling confidently and looks fairly muscular, if slim. There is a speech bubble coming out from her saying "Here comes the Girl Wonder!"]

Steph will always be just as valid and important a Robin as the others to me. Always.

She'd been a great Robin if DC didn't decide it was a good idea to use her as a catalyst for one of their worst crossovers ever.

They'll take my memory of seeing Steph as Robin from my cold dead hands. Nothing is going to invalidate that, not a million fanboys, nothing. So great secret!

I loved Steph as Robin too, even though the whole thing was just so poorly written.
I feel like her time as Robin is just such an example of the misogyny in the comics industry. And the laughable thing is, DC thought they were honoring her by giving her the Robin mantle before killing her off

(Anonymous) 2013-07-14 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why I tire of DC and their legacy characters. There's too many versions and people will never stop crying about "theirs." Especially Robins/BatGirls Since Bruce apparently goes through them like toilet paper.

I also consider her a real and valid Robin, but for whatever reason I liked her even more as Spoiler and Batgirl. Her Batgirl costume was REALLY nice and I loved her dynamics with BoP and Supergirl.

Maybe it's just that her issues as Robin had Bruce being such an unfathomable dick that they're less fun to read, for me.
