Re: Trayvon Martin Case:WTF

So he totally deserved to be shot and killed, right? JFC this case really brings out the ugly in people.

He wouldn't have been shot had he not walked back and jumped his follower and pummeled him into the ground. Zimmerman was calling for help, and no one answered. Trayvon broke his nose and slammed his head against the pavement repeatedly. Zimmerman shouldn't have shot Trayvon, but he still had a right to defend himself.

Sounds like he was trying to stand his ground, like Florida state law says he was entitled to. This case is just an ongoing education in why stand your ground laws are stupid, and why retreat to safety laws are much more sensible.

And Zimmerman wouldn't have gotten his head bashed in, nor Trayvon killed, if he had stayed in his car. The snowball of bad decisions that night started with one person and it wasn't Trayvon out minding his own business.

Yeah, I watched the part of the trial dealing with part of what you're referring to. The medical expert said nothing about Zimmerman's injuries were consistent with being "slammed" on the ground repeatedly, and his other injuries were very minor.

A broken nose is minor? There's also the txt messages on his cell. He bragged about beating up a 'snitch' and he wasn't ever going to stop until he sees them 'bleed'.

And of course the picture he took of himself holding a gun that didn't belong to him. At least Zimmerman owned his gun -legally-.

He didn't deserve to be shot and killed. Nobody does.

However, the portrayal of a seventeen year old guy as an innocent child is misleading and frankly insulting to Trayvon.

However, the fact that he liked pot has nothing to do with the altercation. Eyewitnesses report that it looked like the person matching Trayvon's description was on top and winning, which does matter.

Don't jump people, even if they're skeevy. They might shoot or knife you after you smack their head against the pavement a couple times.

I'm firmly of the opinion there was no "right" person in this clusterfuck. Zimmerman did catalyze it, and I think the law is bullshit. But you won't find me with a "Martin/George was right" banner anytime soon.
