I have to ask, why do you wear them? I'm something like a C cup and I only wear bras for job interviews - I just decided I was done with them like 10 years ago.

Butting in, but this smaller-breasted woman wears bras most of the time, including at home, because I feel more comfortable with them, with my breasts supported and kept more in place. I do go without in Summer, but only if I'm wearing a more structured top, or a very fit (tight? ESL, sorry) one. I even have some very soft, comfortable bras just to wear at home.

I was asking because [personal profile] tabaqui specifically said she hated them, not because of her breast size.

This is mostly unrelated, but yes, the word you were looking for was tight.

Well, i only wear them when i have to, like when something looks weird without a bra or exercising. Otherwise, i don't. Stupid things.

Right - I've kind of shaped my wardrobe/dress habits around never wearing them, I guess. I just stick to camisoles or sports tops except for super-formal life moments.

Breast volume varies with both cup size and band size, so whether one's boobs are small enough to go braless comfortably is not purely a function of cup size. I'm a 32DD and frequently don't bother with a bra, but a woman who is a 40C would actually have larger breasts than I do and might not want to go without a bra. Also, breasts come in different shapes and densities and some women simply don't like the shape their breasts take under a shirt if they don't wear a bra, regardless of their bust size. My only concern is flashing my nipples at everyone, which is a problem in the summer when I'm more likely to want to go braless but also wearing thinner clothes that do nothing to conceal hard nipples.

I was replying to someone who specifically said they hated bras. As most women wear bras whether they hate them or not, I have been made aware of all the reasons why people of all shapes and sizes wear bras. I know that my body shape in most clothing would be "better" if I wore a bra (not least as most clothing is expressly designed that way), just as my face would look "better" if I put makeup on and my legs would look "better" if I wore high heels, but 99% of days none of those things are worth my time and discomfort, even at work. Tbph these days I think my boobs look weird if I'm wearing a bra.

And yeah, summer is slightly more annoying than winter, but fortunately I've always worked in places with air conditioning and outside of work and other formal occasions, does it really matter? You see male nipples in summer all the time.

I'm a small size and I wear bras a lot for two reasons. I'm forty-something and even as small as my boobies are they're not as perky as they once were - if I'm wearing a bra, I don't get the under-boobie sweat :D

And I like light-colored clothing and don't need people staring at my dark nipples showing through my clothes.

fwiw it's now thought that bras promote sagging, though I'm sure time catches up with all of us eventually. In any case, a shelf cami solves either of those two issues and many people find them more comfortable than bras. There's just this cultural entrenchment when it comes to bras - insofar as they have functions that matter to some people in some situations, there are other means of achieving those same ends, but there's a resistance to exploring those other options because bras.
