...now I feel weird for saying I still like all of those characters to one degree or another.

But then, I was never really immersed in HP fandom, haven't read a lot of meta, etc. I've basically just read the books, seen the movies, and read the occasional bad!fic.

Yeah, I think the hardcore fandom people formed a lot of very strong opinions - I definitely did. And then I'd talk to non-fandom friends and confuse them into almost thinking we were reading different book series.
