It's possible for a person to idolize someone around his own age. I met one of my heroines in band class as a very young girl, and she was a year younger than me. My decision to enter the police academy was made largely because of her. (I mean, it didn't end up working out, but still.)

True, but the wording of the secret implies that one is a fair bit older than the other - and ones that are the same age tend to show in different ways from what I've seen.
