Anon, if you love writing then you can succeed in it.

Let me tell you something. I am a writer. I just graduated with one of my majors being english. I've had published radio plays and am working on another play right now for a festival. I received an award for writing and graduated with honors.

Why am I telling you this?

Because when I was younger english was my worst subject. I was spelling good "g-u-d" in the fucking sixth grade. I was so ashamed of my poor writing and myself that I would never write letters or type online. I never wrote notes in class and I hid all my work. I cried during spelling tests. I thought I would never be smart like the other kids and I thought I would never be any good at writing.

If I can go from that to where I am now who knows where you can end up. You can only go as far as you are willing to work for. So don't give up. I worked so hard and spent so much extra time learning what came naturally to other people and you know what? It paid off. I'm not saying it will be easy for you but I am saying you can improve and you can get better.

So write on, OP. Write on.

This is a wonderful comment.

I'm glad that your hard work has paid off, and that you've experienced some degree of success. I'm thankful that you've shared your story.

I hope that OP will take heart. I hope that others who are in similar situations will take heart, as well.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad someone appreciated what I had to say.

I hope so too.

You have just (re)inspired me to keep auditioning and singing for people.

More reason why I love you: you give such good pep talks, I found meaning for something totally unrelated. <3

Girl, you have the voice of an angel... or a devil. Either way, it's unearthly. I'm glad you're still auditioning.

I'm glad I inspired someone.

This is an A+ comment! I'm not published (I love writing but don't have the stones to be constantly rejected by publishers), and my absolute worst subject in high school was English.

And I was the girl with the high school reading level in grade five. I just could NOT parse most grammar rules. I have no idea why, whether it was the way my teachers 'explained' them, or what.

But at the same time, I let those same teachers read some of my stuff and got nothing but praise, so I don't think writing or writers should necessarily be held back by feeling that their writing doesn't follow the rules, or anything like that.

I don't want to say things like, "That's what editors are for!", but to a certain degree it is true. In general a good editor can help polish a slightly grammatically wonky novel or screenplay, but they can't turn something boring or uninteresting into something that people will enjoy.
