This is an A+ comment! I'm not published (I love writing but don't have the stones to be constantly rejected by publishers), and my absolute worst subject in high school was English.

And I was the girl with the high school reading level in grade five. I just could NOT parse most grammar rules. I have no idea why, whether it was the way my teachers 'explained' them, or what.

But at the same time, I let those same teachers read some of my stuff and got nothing but praise, so I don't think writing or writers should necessarily be held back by feeling that their writing doesn't follow the rules, or anything like that.

I don't want to say things like, "That's what editors are for!", but to a certain degree it is true. In general a good editor can help polish a slightly grammatically wonky novel or screenplay, but they can't turn something boring or uninteresting into something that people will enjoy.
