But sexual attraction is part of it, right? We're not imagining they want to rip off each other's clothes, are we? HG self-identifies as bisexual. "Many of my lovers were men," she says early in season two. And Kenny told me he thinks Myka "falls somewhere in the middle of the Kinsey Scale." When I asked him if Myka is uncomfortable with the idea of being bisexual or sexually fluid, if that's what's keeping her from pursuing something romantic or sexual with HG, he said: "I definitely do not think it's discomfort. I think it's an unusual feeling for Myka, but she knows what it is, and isn't afraid of it."]
Even though I'm generally frustrated with the way Jack Kenny has spoken about Myka/HG and treated the shippers (especially considering canon actively acknowledged Jinks' sexuality this season, finally), and I doubt anything will come of it in the show, I cried when I read this. [the secret maker marked these words: says early in season two. And Kenny told me he thinks Myka "falls somewhere in the middle of the Kinsey Scale." I relate so much to Myka personality-wise that to see her attraction to women as well as men confirmed (which is something I've only recently discovered about myself as well) is very comforting to me. (I also can't come out right now, so shipping Bering and Wells is a way for me to imagine a character that reminds me so much of myself getting a happy ending in a way that I can't.

from Wikipedia:
The Kinsey scale, also called the Heterosexual-Homosexual Rating Scale,[1] attempts to describe a person's sexual experience or response at a given time. It uses a scale from 0, meaning exclusively heterosexual, to 6, meaning exclusively homosexual.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)Like making characters id as bi is great, but still seeing women always get serious/end up with men (where with the same sex it's either a fling or doesn't go beyond stolen glances) makes me feel like writers are still afraid to really write about the bisexual experience.
This is not completely directed at WH13, your secret just made me think about the trends of how bisexuals are written in tv.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 02:05 am (UTC)(link)(And I call bullshit on all the "ZOMG the show is scared of the gay!1!" whining when the ONLY canonically gay character on the show is Steve. You want "representation"? Then actually fight for the character that deserves it.)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 03:35 am (UTC)(link)Except bisexual erasure is a real thing, and it doesn't always relate to the inclusion of gay characters in the series. Yes they got their LGBT "brownie points" for including Steve but there are still a lot more canon portrayals of gay men (in particular white gay men) then there are of bisexual men/women.
It's possible to not be "afraid of the gay" and still contribute to bisexual erasure, in fact a lot of gay writers tend to contribute to the problem themselves. Just because we're all apart of the same "group" doesn't mean there aren't problems within that group that we need to work on together.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 04:36 am (UTC)(link)Well, HG is canonically bisexual, so I don't see the erasure.
I should have worded it better, I didn't mean so much "afraid of the gay" as "ZOMG homophobia!1!" which I saw quite a bit being thrown at show, when there was already a gay character. If what fans truly cared about was LGBT representation, they would have championed as hard for Steve to get a proper storyline instead of basically forgetting he existed.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)HG/Myka had it long time coming. And yes, I'll be disappointed if the writers decide not to go there in the end. I'm not entitled to see 'gay/bisexual' themes on shows, but they'd clearly gone in that direction after the chemistry between the two was just overwhelming.
I'm glad for you OP that it gave you some 'hope' OP. :-)
