(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 02:05 am (UTC)(link)(And I call bullshit on all the "ZOMG the show is scared of the gay!1!" whining when the ONLY canonically gay character on the show is Steve. You want "representation"? Then actually fight for the character that deserves it.)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 03:35 am (UTC)(link)Except bisexual erasure is a real thing, and it doesn't always relate to the inclusion of gay characters in the series. Yes they got their LGBT "brownie points" for including Steve but there are still a lot more canon portrayals of gay men (in particular white gay men) then there are of bisexual men/women.
It's possible to not be "afraid of the gay" and still contribute to bisexual erasure, in fact a lot of gay writers tend to contribute to the problem themselves. Just because we're all apart of the same "group" doesn't mean there aren't problems within that group that we need to work on together.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 04:36 am (UTC)(link)Well, HG is canonically bisexual, so I don't see the erasure.
I should have worded it better, I didn't mean so much "afraid of the gay" as "ZOMG homophobia!1!" which I saw quite a bit being thrown at show, when there was already a gay character. If what fans truly cared about was LGBT representation, they would have championed as hard for Steve to get a proper storyline instead of basically forgetting he existed.
