I think the difference is that Bayonetta is in control of her sexuality, compared to other female game characters. She owns it and uses it. So it comes off as "fuck yeah, kick ass woman," instead of male gazey.

What?

FUCKING WHAT?

You're fucking retarded.

Wow, insulting people doesn't exactly do anything for any legitimate arguments you might have had.

Isn't that what trolls do??????

This.

It's not the male-gazey peek show you'd usually see: Bayonetta is always aware of the camera and poses for it by her OWN volition and enjoys the attention. She's sexually aggressive and absolutely dominates everyone and everything she comes across. Nothing sexy ever happens against her own will. So really, I don't know what's so bad about that - people like Bayonetta exist in the real world too, and we're not shaming them about it are we?

Compare that to a more mainstream game where the female character is portrayed as a somewhat non-sexual person with non-sexual interests, yet somehow she's got giant bouncing boobs that are spilling out of a bikini and the camera makes constant effort to zoom into them without the girl's awareness or consent. That's a whole different beast.

Yes! That's exactly what I was getting at. Thank you for putting it so articulately :)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, compare this to the godawful new Tomb Raider.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes thank you. This is a great summary of why Bayonetta didn't skeeve me out the way most fanservice-y media with female characters does.
