I'm on neither side. I really can't choose one. Because in the end, both sides make good points. (Also bad points but I'm ignoring those.)

I think this is really a game where you have to sit down and decide for yourself and only yourself how you feel about it. Interpretations of what is happening can vary wildly and we need to recognize that. Someone can enjoy this game and not find it sexist. Someone can enjoy it but also find it sexist. They can also not enjoy it and be on either side of the sexism debate. And if you haven't played the game I choose to not care about your opinion.

I feel like at the moment I don't have the tools to properly analyze this game and figure out what it means on the larger scale. So I'm thinking this is something that's going to take time. I need time. I think it's also okay to not know how you feel about it or to struggle with it. I think it's okay if you take a long time to do so.

What I'm trying to say is this: I think this is far more complicated than the black and white of it is/isn't sexist. I think that complexity is important in learning where you stand on the issue. And honestly, I think it's important that we're having this discussion and seeing how people can view things so differently from us. (Maybe not exactly in this thread though... this one is kind of toxic.)

I think most things are sexist in this culture, but what matters in debate is the degree. So yeah, I'm sure there is plenty of sexism in the layers of "ironic" objectification, but also a challenge to it as well. Just not going into it in this trolltastic thread.

I find myself agreeing with you on both you points about degrees of sexism and the trollishness of this thread.

hmm. I think whether something is sexist has to do with the intentions and effects...it probably *could* be quantified, but it would be next to impossible to gather all the needed information.

For me, sexism can happen regardless of intention and all that I'm saying right here has to do specifically with this one game. I have heard so many things from both sides* that the water has been muddied so much I can hardly make heads or tales.

I was just trying to say it's okay to find the conversation around this game confusing and that the conversation itself, is good to have. The fact that we're discussing it and trying to figure it out is a good thing.

sexism can happen regardless of intention

Yeah, that's why I added "and effect". Sorry if it wasn't clear!

And yeah I don't disagree with you at all, I guess I just think an observation about whether something sexist isn't completely subjective, but it was really a tangent/philosophical point...sorry ;-;

Oh! I'm sorry for misunderstanding.

No, no, I get what you're saying now. I don't actually know if I agree or not. That is something for me to ponder on. Ah ha ha, thank you for making me think.
