Wedding =/= marriage. You can loathe having to go through a wedding ceremony and all that shit and still want to be married to someone.
Weddings are stressful. Most people want no ceremony and party at all, but are forced to have it because ~tradition~.

When my wife and I got married we just went to the registry office in fancy attire (we didn't buy new clothes for it, though) and afterwards had a dinner with our respective parents - tadaa.
If OP is anything like my wife and I, I totally get them.
