Some of them are carrying weapons like hammers, maces, short swords, bows and arrows and spears.]

I know it would never happen but I would trade in the remaining Hobbit movies for a spin-off miniseries all about their adventures before Thorin's quest.

That's what's wrong with the quest, Dís wasn't there to stop Thorin brooding (and brush and braid her boys' hair - though I like to think Kíli does Fíli's braidstaches for him).
