Being all personal and showing your pic and your private life on Tumblr (or any other site) seems to generate the most responses and gain the most followers. It's even recommended by social media guru because it's "authentic."

But I agree. The potential for wank, drama, and toxicity is too high, at least for me. I prefer relative anonymity to discuss fandom stuff and find enough people for that.
