Help me find this book?

A long time ago I read a book about a girl who can't be exposed to the sun because of a medical condition, so she sleeps during the day and is awake at night. I'm pretty sure it was either YA or a children's book, and I could be wrong but I think the author was female (or at least had a feminine-sounding name). Does anyone here know the title?

I think the condition is called Xeroderma pigmentosum. Maybe if you google for that?

I remember a Discovery Channel documentary about a Chinese girl who had that condition, called The Girl Who Lives In The Dark

Never heard of a book though. Sorry.
