I don't think that being a compassionate friend equals being "passive". Have you never done something for someone else even though you technically didn't enjoy it? You know, just to make them happy?

I definitely have.

However, it wasn't five times in a row, and it wasn't over something simple like a concert. Generally the doing something for someone else involves helping them with work.

If going to a damn concert is so awful for the OP, and it's just a concert and not something necessary, then yeah. They need to grow gonads.

Let the friend know, gently, that you don't want to go. Hell, you've gone five times! If they try to make you feel bad, they aren't a good friend.

Maybe those concert aren't "something simple" to the OP's friend, though. I mean, we've all seen plenty of those secrets where people say that a band's music is all that keeps them going -- maybe it's something like that in this case, too. We don't know the full story, that's all I'm saying.
