Same about your personal life; you'll probably get questions about it, but you don't have to answer anything you don't feel comfortable with. People have their reasons for sharing, as do people who don't. Plus, even if you do end up sharing something of your personal life, it doesn't have to be everything, you know? They don't need to know your day to day schedule or your family history or anything (again, unless you want them too, lol). You're in charge of what info you give them, so don't worry about that. (Though, if you put yourself out there a bit more, who knows what will happen. Maybe you'll make a friend who you do want to get to know on a more personal level.)
Still, you can make friends regardless, it just takes time and effort. (Commenting, possibly posting, chatting on IM programs, that kind of thing.)
Depending on what fandoms you share (and how many) you might rarely run out of things to talk about even if you choose to mostly discuss fandom. (Or news & current events, etc.)
Anyway, what I'm saying is that it's possible to make friends even for those who aren't the best with other people, or the most sociable. (I know, man. I know.) You have to try, though. (And if you don't...well, just know that you aren't the only person in this situation, and while it might not help you feel less lonely, realize that it's not a totally uncommon problem, and that people can and have overcome it.)
Good luck with everything!
