As someone who once tried to get into theatre fandom, and lives in Australia, I immediately assumed it was about this, too. Interestingly, in Australia, comedy fandom has similar restrictions -- which is interesting now some of that old "rare" stuff is now getting DVD releases!

I dunno, I hold, I think, rares.#

Most of my *rares* are actual physical things from ZOMG PRE INTERNETS DAYZ! I lovingly curated this stuff for my own personal pleasure, not anyone elses. Videos, posters, pics, articles (from when, you know people read magazines and papers), micro-fiche articles, audio recordings from the radio (on ZOMG TAPES), photos that I took.

If I shared it with someone it was because we built up a friendship and we shared stuff together, not because I as a curator of old stuff suddenly became a fucking librarian for some young-un who *wanted* it.

Rare stuff is only exciting after years of searching for it and *finally* getting your hands on it. Otherwise it's not rare any more.

#rares definition definitely needs defining

So Anon, tell me -- old "rare" stuff now in DVD are you talkin' DAAS or something else?
