Re: Does a couple without kids count as "a family"?
Working from that I also consider my foster parents my family (and their children and grandchildren) family, also my cat, and my step brother and mother, my adopted foster niece and nephew, my little sisters foster parents and their children and of course my own mother and father and aunts and uncles, to some degree I also count my friends family as part of my family as I get invited to their extended family functions and her parents calls me up and asks how I am doing from time to time.
This is the same attitude that is when people say half (step/foster) siblings are not your real™ siblings, because they are not related enough or something? Which believe me hurt like hell (the thought that I can't possibly love my siblings as much as someone who have both parents in common is just stupid), so maybe think about that, the next time you judge someone for what they choose to call their family? No one is forcing you and your future husband to call yourself family, but let people who want to do it and respect their damn feelings.
I am sick and tired of people having one or two views of what a real family is and anything outside of that is not a "real"... Some of us have a huge (and possibly complicated) family, others have a smal family and some are not related to any person that they consider part of their family. Some only have their partner as family and others have like me 5 parents and are not related to half of the people we choose to include in our count as family.
