Fuck "should be." The Spouse and I are family, legally and emotionally, and nothing about my reproductive issues can take that away. That's one of the reasons I'm still pissed off at his aunts, actually - their insistence that I wasn't really family was part of their justifications for keeping need-to-know stuff about his male relatives away from me.

Now, the more complex question is, are the Spouse and the Beloved and I family? Actually, the answer to that is "no," because the Beloved is kind of commitment-phobic, the issue of visitation rights should one of us end up in the hospital notwithstanding. But the larger question for our other friends in committed triad or quad relationships, sans children, stands.
