He got addicted to drugs when he was a kid and he didn't have it all. And I guess that if staying clean were easy, nobody would relapse. It's a fight. And sometimes, sadly, people lose.

This. It's not as if he wasn't clean for a good while, as far as we know, but hard drugs are hard to kick.

My dad, when he worked with drug cops, knew a drug dealer who was addicted to the chemicals that make fridges cold, and put that in an inhaler to take every so often. The stuff froze and cracked his teeth, but he didn't care, because he wanted the high.

I would understand the OP's POV much more if Cory had started drugs later in life, especially if it looked like it was part of being "cool" and living the "L.A. lifestyle" or something. But I sure as fuck am not going to judge a 13-year-old kid who got themselves addicted because A) 13-year-olds are not knows for their judges and B) Let's be real -- if a 13-year-old is in a position to get addicted do hard drugs, chances are their life isn't exactly fluffiness and joy*.

And yeah, once you're addicted, that fight is lifelong. Cory seemed to really, really be trying, and that's why it's sad that this happened.


(*There are exceptions, of course, but most people I know of who got into hard drugs that young had something series wrong in their home life or with their mental health.)
