Please tell me you aren't serious.

You can't compare a rapist deciding to rape someone (=hurting someone else) with someone deciding consuming addicting substance (=risking hurting themselves).

Stop using the rape analogy. It doesn't apply because in rape there is a rapist. Who is a person who makes choices, including the choice to rape someone else. Drugs are not people and they don't choose anything.

We aren't talking about *deserving* or not deserving. Whether or not I think someone deserves whatever bad thing happened to them, I'm still going to think that they should get all the help they need.

That doesn't mean I'm not going to think that they made shitty decisions.

Dressing skimpily is not KNOWN to cause rape in the way that taking drugs is KNOWN to cause addiction. In the one case, you are talking about a person who is ACTED UPON, by an outside force, which has no actual correlation to the action of the victim. In the other case, you are talking about a person who ACTS, by their own free will, in a way that DOES have a direct correlation to the outcome of the matter. Strawman ahoy, dear.

Ok, I think you've been pretty reasonable in this thread so far, but the rape analogy? I don't think that's a good thing to be doing. And it is, for reasons listed by other commenters, a very bad analogy.

The motorcycle helmet analogy was better.
