This entire thing smacks of so much of the prominent view in fandom that people who drink, smoke, use drugs, etc, are DISGUSTING and BAD PEOPLE. The average well-adjusted person in society would see Cory's story and say "Aww, so sad, what a bright future, it's a shame he couldn't get himself clean," not "Well, I don't feel sorry for him at all, it was his own fault."
