OP 21

Forgive me for not being as experienced and around-the-block; this is only the third secret I've submitted in the week and a half I've known about this community. What's so inherently wrong about "I lose respect" in secrets? Should I *not* lose respect for people who prove that they can't understand one of the most significant points in the relationship between two characters? Should I not lose respect for people who intentionally ignore important canon for the purpose of sugar-coating a relationship and pretending it's something it's not?

I don't quite understand why this particular phrasing evokes such a reaction. I saw nothing in the rules about it.

No harsh feelings, it's just that losing respect for people over something like a ship is kind of silly IMO. Ah well, I can't change your opinion.

Well that's the thing; it's not losing respect for people over their liking a ship. I even say in the secret that if they want to ship them as an incestuous pairing, that's fine by me. But the vast majority of people I see shipping them don't do this.

In canon, the two characters have a clearly defined and wonderfully nuanced sibling relationship despite not being related by blood (but they were raised together). Their relationship is dynamic and compelling and probably one of my favorites in the series. What irks me and makes me lose respect for the majority of shippers is when they completely IGNORE the already-established dynamic or sugar-coat it to make it something that it isn't. They AREN'T "childhood friends who grew up together," they're explicitly established as SIBLINGS, and I haven't seen ANYBODY who ships these two do so in a way that takes their familial bond into account (doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I haven't encountered them).

And that's why I lose respect; not because they ship this, but because they either miss one of the hugest parts of their canon relationship or willfully choose to ignore it.

Now I understand what you're saying. I'm not in the PW fandom, btw.
