(Anonymous) 2007-10-01 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)In canon, the two characters have a clearly defined and wonderfully nuanced sibling relationship despite not being related by blood (but they were raised together). Their relationship is dynamic and compelling and probably one of my favorites in the series. What irks me and makes me lose respect for the majority of shippers is when they completely IGNORE the already-established dynamic or sugar-coat it to make it something that it isn't. They AREN'T "childhood friends who grew up together," they're explicitly established as SIBLINGS, and I haven't seen ANYBODY who ships these two do so in a way that takes their familial bond into account (doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I haven't encountered them).
And that's why I lose respect; not because they ship this, but because they either miss one of the hugest parts of their canon relationship or willfully choose to ignore it.
