fandom and lj

(Anonymous) 2013-07-22 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the way fandom was in 2009. I still don't understand why people abandoned lj and why fandom changed so much. Twitter/tumblr just isn't as satisfying.

It didn't help that people got really pissed off at LJ.

This has to be the zillionth time there's been a thread like this here.

We get it, you hate tumblr and long for the good old days of el-jay.

Now shaddup about it.

because twitter and tumblr happened, while lj got crappy, that's why

look i miss them too but if you want to return to those times, drum up interest! mod communities, organize events, make a tumblr account and post about said events, etc.

You don't understand why people abandon a site that was down more times than it was up? And forget about no notifications.

I'm with you anon. I was a lot more involved in fandom back in LJ's heyday and miss all of those friendships and discussions. Sad truth is LJ started massively sucking so people started leaving for other things. I only read fic in a couple comms now, the two comms I co-modded are dying and I stepped down and most of my friends have moved to Tumblr (which I really dislike). I still have a few friends on LJ but we hardly ever talk anymore.

It'll just have to be one of those things we look back on, say 'that was really fun' and move on.

Because LJ can't keep their shit together...I liked it too but why would you want to use a site that's down all the time and doesn't work well even when it's up?

LJ dug their own grave and it's unfortunate, but griping won't change it back.

Sometimes I feel like I'm just waiting for the next cool site. I would love if something new came along that was a bit of combination of LJ and Tumblr.

yeah, if there was a site that could combine the good parts of lj and tumblr it'd be the actual perfect fandom spot.

*sigh* I know. People had (and have) issues with LJ, but frankly, the site's unreliability still doesn't make Tumblr a better platform for discussions and posting fanfic. I miss old LJ, too.
