Hannibal Chau and Herc I liked but my brain couldn't decide if Newt was incredibly annoying or kind of adorable, I kept ping-ponging between the two. I don't think I could watch a film with just those three though, they need the other characters to bounce off of really.

He was incredibly annoying AND adorable, which is why I loved him.

He's one of those characters that will grow on me I reckon.

I loved him, but mostly because he does everything in his power to get killed. Dropping his glasses, scrambling backwards, walking up to "dead" things, standing in one spot and cowering, freaking out at the wrong times, and generally being really annoying--all Hollywood code for "guy who is about to be dead."

And yet...

You know I really thought he was going to get smushed when he dropped his glasses in the safe room, and now that you mention it he really is 'should have gotten himself killed' dude which is highly amusing thinking back.

Omg, you guys are right. If this were a '90's action movie, he would have been so dead.

That's the beauty of this film, Del Toro takes the cliches and subverts and twists them, it's so clever.
